An award-winning Gloucestershire fish and chip shop is set to appear in a brand-new BBC TV show this May 2022.
The popular Simpsons Fish and Chips, which has venues in Cheltenham, Stroud and Gloucester, will go head-to-head against some of the country’s best chippys in Britain’s Top Takeaways – appearing in the first episode of the new, eight-part series on Monday 9 May 2022.
Hosted by Sarah Cox and comedian Darren Harriott, the fast-food showdown will see contestants from some of Britain’s best independent takeaways battle it out against others from their sector, with a different winner crowned each week.
Simpsons will be stepping into the temporary ‘Top Takeaway Kitchen’ to cook its best meals, before its food is sent out to local households who will decide the winner.
A firm favourite with local foodies, Simpsons has three fish and chip shops across Gloucestershire – including its flagship store in Cheltenham, its Stroud-based premises and its newest Gloucester venue, which opened in March 2022.
Championing natural ingredients and using only sustainably-sourced fish, the takeaway has won numerous awards over the years and is loved by SoGlos readers, who voted for the chippy as their Takeaway of the Year in the 2020 SoGlos Gloucestershire Lifestyle Awards.
Simpsons founder, Bonny Ritchie, said: ‘Whilst I can’t give too much away, I can say that it was one of the most thrilling experiences to partake in.
‘Being able to share our food with Sarah Cox and Darren Harriot was really fun! We had to cook alongside some incredibly talented people. The concept was rather unique – delivering our dishes to the judges at their homes was fantastic!’
Fans of the Gloucestershire chippy can see Bonny and her team in action when the first episode airs at 8pm on Monday 9 May 2022 – available to watch on BBC Two and iPlayer.
