A must for gin lovers, foodies and history enthusiasts, Cheltenham’s Memsahib Gin and Tea Bar is hosting a night out with a difference, inviting guests to join its unique Memsahib dining experience on Friday 13 August 2021.
Step inside the speakeasy-style bar to get acquainted with a little-known chapter of Cheltenham’s history, discovering the fascinating lives of local Memsahib women while enjoying live entertainment, Anglo-Indian tapas and gin-infused cocktail pairings.
After toasting the evening with a welcome drink, guests will start the experience with a Singapore Sling and learn a bit about the history of the cocktail.
There’ll be five courses to enjoy, from samosa to start; prawn kofta; juniper-cured carpaccio; a dry-aged bresaola steak paratha bread pizza; and to finish, a Gulab jamun cheesecake and kulfi. All paired with gin and tea-inspired cocktails such as the Bombay Presidency punch teapot and a tropical mango tea gin and tonic.
Regular entertainment breaks will transport guests back to another era, sharing the stories of the Memsahibs who settled in Cheltenham following the end of British rule in India.
Actors from The Cheltenham Promenaders will bring their rich history to life, revealing how these women helped to bridge the gap between Anglo-Indian culture and people – and empowered Indian women, too.
