Expect horseback displays, maypole dancing and living history entertainment at Berkeley Castle this spring bank holiday weekend.

Experience a royal visit straight from the 17th century, as Berkeley Castle hosts the decadent King Charles II for an exciting living history event on Sunday 26 and Monday 27 May 2024.

Known as the Merry Monarch for his hedonistic ways, there's the chance to see the king arrive on horseback, followed by an exhilarating, six-horse equestrian display.

Then, head to the Great Hall to meet the monarch and find out about his fascinating life — from fighting Oliver Cromwell in the English Civil War to reclaiming the throne in the 1660 Restoration.

With maypole dancing, music and 900 years of history to discover inside the castle walls, too, there's time to soak up the historical atmosphere and explore Berkeley Castle's impressive past.

All activities are included in the cost of admission to Berkeley Castle over the spring bank holiday Sunday and Monday.
