Children with a real interest in art won't want to miss The Wilson's three-day art courses this summer, taking place at the Cheltenham gallery and museum throughout the school holidays.
Led by trained artist, Kitty McLeod, these creative courses teach core skills and put theory into practice, covering everything from colour theory to 3D making — the perfect opportunity for arty types to hone their talent and express their creativity.
The Summer Art Explorers programme starts with Intensive drawing, an immersive course that teaches young artists how to precisely draw what they see.
Taking place over three sessions on Tuesday 30 July, Thursday 1 and Friday 2 August 2024, this workshop teaches structured drawing and measuring techniques, with artists putting their new-found knowledge to the test by accurately drawing historical objects from The Wilson's own collections.
Followed by Intensive practical fine art on Tuesday 6, Thursday 8 and Friday 9 August 2024, which offers an introduction to drawing, colour theory and watercolour.
The Exploring colour theory and painting workshop on Tuesday 20, Thursday 22 and Friday 23 August 2024 is another chance to explore drawing, colour theory and watercolour, with both courses focusing on drawing and painting fruit and cupcakes.
Finally, the Wearable art project involves designing a face, headdress and backdrop, using a mixture of techniques like 3D making, face painting and traditional painting, to create a mixed media piece.
Also taking place over three sessions, this course spans Tuesday 27, Thursday 29 and Friday 30 August 2024.
Designed for children aged eight to 16-years-old, places for each course cost from £125 and must be booked online via cheltenhammuseum.org.uk/whats-on.
