Offering the chance for young enthusiasts and budding engineers to step into the fascinating world of steam and diesel railways, the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway is hosting its FREE Young Engineers weekend from Saturday 28 to Sunday 29 September 2024.

Interactive events at Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway
Offering children and teenagers chance to explore, learn, and get hands-on experience with the marvels of technology that help our railway operate throughout the year, GSWR's Young Engineers weekend engages kids in exciting workshops where you can learn about the mechanics of steam engines and how they work.
Explore how the team lay the track during the 'Permanent Way' event; get inside the cab of one of the diesel locos in the 'Diesel Department'; step into the demonstration signal box and chat to the signalman, seeing them in action during 'Signalling'; see how engineers maintain the braking systems on the carriages at 'Carriage & Wagon'; and plenty more.
Tours at Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway
If you're curious to see the working environment in action, there will be tours of both the loco and diesel sheds throughout the day — just check with the GWRT team in the marquee for timings.
Please note there are specific terms and conditions to these: closed toe shoes must be worn; all under 16s must be accompanied by an adult; and entrants must be over 11. Due to the nature of the sheds wheelchairs and walking frames can’t be permitted on the tours.
