Celebrating 80 years in 2025, explore the enchanting Moominvalley when The Museum of Gloucester teams up with award-winning interactive theatre company, Bakehouse Factory, to host an immersive exhibition all about The Moomins this spring.
Running from Saturday 29 March until Sunday 5 October 2025, Moomin ABC offers people of all ages the chance to step into an enchanting world inspired by Moominvalley, immersing themselves in the adventures of Moominmamma, Sniff, Stinky, Little My, Hodgkins, Snufkin and Snorkmaiden.
To begin the experience, visitors scan their hand in a special machine which will assign a Moomin buddy as a companion for their journey.
Each of the characters features a special augmented reality experience — all that’s needed is a smart phone and imagination! Plus, if you don't have a phone to hand, the museum will provide devices to enable everyone to participate.
During the immersive exhibition, explore three ABC islands, each depicting a scene from one of the books that describes a feeling, designed to encourage visitors to engage with their own emotions.
Families can also take a moment to pause in the forest to read a story in the tipi, hop and play among log stumps or simply relax in a peaceful setting.
But that's not all, measure up against a Moomin at the ‘How Tall Wall’; try out a special version of hopscotch called Hopescotch; dress up in Moomin-inspired costumes; and get creative in the craft areas — perhaps write a letter to Fillyjonk to help her feel better.
