Families looking to make the most of the May half term should look no further than WWT Slimbridge.
This spring, WWT has partnered with British animation studio, Aardman, alongside the Royal Entomological Society, inviting families to get stuck into the Lloyd of the Flies Wetland Bug Hunt.
May half term is the final chance to join Lloyd, of Aardman’s children’s comedy series Lloyd of the Flies and his friend Dart — the colourful emperor dragonfly created exclusively by Aardman for WWT visitors — on an epic adventure through the wonderful world of wetlands.
Explore the reed beds and peek into beautiful ponds to learn all about amazing wetland insects and the important roles they play in nature, while helping Lloyd to track down his family and friends for a visit to Slimbridge's newly opened bug hotel!
Families are encouraged to take part in activity challenges along the way, from striking yoga poses like Cornea the butterfly and creating a buzz like Yard the bee, to forming their own ant conga like Queen Libby the ant or weaving a web like Julie the spider.
For a truly interactive experience, download Aardman's augmented reality app, Lloyd of the Flies AR Bug Hunt, to shrink down to fly size and see the world through an insect's eyes. You'll be able to watch Dart flying around the wetlands, too!
The app is free to download from both Google Play and the App Store. Download before you visit; you'll be promoted to input a location code, which you can find at the centre when you visit.
Plus, enjoy even more insect-themed activities like pond dipping, colouring and special screenings of Lloyd of the Flies episodes throughout May half term.
The Lloyd of the Flies Wetland Bug Hunt is at Slimbridge until Sunday 1 June 2025 and included in the price of admission.
