Ahoy me hearty! To celebrate the Tall Ships returning to Gloucester this spring, The Folk is transforming itself into a haven for pirates, buccaneers and music lovers of all ages at its steam punk pirate festival — Pirates' Retreat — this May bank holiday.
Welcoming scallywags large and small from across the county, the three-day festival runs from Friday 24 to Monday 27 May 2024, offering a thrilling range of activities for the whole family to get involved with — and entry is completely free!
From an insight into the true story of the Titanic using all original magic lantern slides and vintage cinema equipment, to rollicking music perfect for Gloucestershire marauders from the Gloucester Shanty Festival, there's plenty of swashbuckling adventures to take part in.
It will be a yo, ho, ho and a barrel of fun across the weekend, with the addition of a Steampunk Pirates Market where landlubbers can find extra supplies or a little treat.
And on Saturday, there's a range of activities helping mini-pirates to get ready to set sail for the seven seas, from children's arts and crafts to the 'Tall Ships, Tall Tales and a County Pirate' talk with Gloucestershire researcher, Tony Conder.
After all the freebooter fun, tuck in to food and drinks fit for a real pirate at the Folk's Courtyard Cafe and Bar.
Please note, while entry is free, children's activities cost £3 to cover the cost
of the materials.
