Capturing the imagination of audiences for hundreds of years, a brand-new, open-air performance of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet is coming to Berkeley Castle this August 2021.
Performed in the castle grounds on Sunday 1 and Monday 2 August 2021, the performance promises to deliver the famous tragedy with ‘modern clarity and relevance’ – making it accessible for audiences of all ages, from seasoned theatregoers to those just discovering Shakespeare.
It’s the first production from The Duke’s Theatre Company, as part of its wider mission to bring classical works to rural communities, breathing new life into literary masterpieces for contemporary audiences to enjoy.
Audiences can expect live, original music, comedic moments and both heart-warming and heart-wrenching scenes as the two star-crossed lovers navigate the highs and lows of young love.
So, grab the tissues and get ready to fall in love with Shakespeare’s tragic heroes all over again. Not forgetting to bring along your own chairs and picnic blankets to enjoy the show.
