Film and music fans are in for a treat this spring, when Cheltenham Film Society hosts Jazz At The Movies, a one-day presentation of four films that were inspired by music.
Taking place at Cheltenham Playhouse on Saturday 5 May 2018, there’s the chance to see a rarely-seen documentary, two thrillers, and an early musical, with the anticipated event being held to coincide with the Cheltenham Jazz Festival.
Let’s Get Lost – from 11.30am
Let’s Get Lost is a documentary about jazz trumpeter and drug addict Chet Baker, featuring a compelling series of interviews interspersed with film from Baker’s earlier life, along with some more modern performances.
Lift to the Scaffold – from 3pm
A classic thriller, Lift to the Scaffold, is a story of scheming, romance and murder, following Florence Carala and her lover Julien Tavernier, an ex–paratrooper who plans to murder Florence’s husband – but things take a complicated turn.
Stormy Weather – from 5.30pm
Stormy Weather features a host of musical numbers, tap routines and famous songs, telling the story of a dancing great Bill Williamson, who reminisces about his career and relationship with singer Selina Rogers.
The Talented Mr Ripley – from 8.15pm
With an all-star cast spanning Matt Damon, Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow, Cate Blanchett, the thriller tells the tale of Tom Ripley, who embarks on a journey of deceit in Italy.
