Taking place at the Everyman Theatre on the eve of Chinese New Year, this special screening celebrates the 25th anniversary of the iconic film, which earned no less than 40 awards, including Oscars for Best Foreign Language Film, Best Art Direction, Best Original Score and Best Cinematography, as well as a nomination for Best Picture.
Set in Qing Dynasty China back in the 19th century, the story follows warrior Li Mu Bai and his lover Yu Shu Lien as they fight to recover his legendary sword, Green Destiny, from the hands of thieves.
The movie which catapulted filmmaker Ang Lee to Hollywood fame blends daring martial arts battles with stunning scenery and heartfelt human drama.
Starring Academy Award-winner Michelle Yeoh and nominee Chow Yun-Fat, as well as Zhang Ziyi, it has become one of the most iconic martial arts movies of all time.
One of a series of special screenings taking place in the run up to this year's festival, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is showing at the Irving Studio at the Everyman Theatre on Tuesday 28 January 2025.
Tickets cost £10 per person, with a discounted rate of £7.50 for Cheltenham International Film Festival members.
