Gloucester History Festival launches its new Winter Warmer digital event this January 2025.

Enjoy a mind-expanding start to the New Year with Gloucester History Festival's new Winter Warmer Digital Festival.

From Friday 24 January until Thursday 6 March 2025, enjoy brand-new events never seen online before; highlights from the 2024 spring and autumn festivals; and events from the festival archives expertly curated by festival president, Professor Janina Ramirez, broadcast straight to your home.

With 50 events from over 60 speakers to choose from, audiences can book tickets to an individual event, or grab a Winter Warmer pass to access all 50 events during the festival.

Covering a huge range of subjects and eras, from Ancient Greece to the modern Middle East, via the Medieval Crusades, Elizabethan London and World War II, the festival is designed to nourish the mind this winter.

Highlights include Tom Kerridge, Greg Jenner, Susie Dent, Chris Packham, Mark Gatiss, Mary Beard, Jeremy Bowen, William Dalrymple, Natalie Haynes, David Olusoga, Dom Joly, Philippa Langley, Michael Wood, Dan Jones and Sathnam Sanghera.

There's also a very special event chaired by historian and TV presenter, Dan Snow, in memory of Gloucestershire Korean War veteran, Tommy Clough, who died in November 2024. Dan speaks to two local Korean War veterans who were Prisoners of War during the conflict in this moving discussion organised in partnership with The Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum.

The new digital festival is a fantastic warm-up to the Gloucester History Festival Spring Weekend from Friday 25 to Sunday 27 April and the flagship Autumn Festival from Saturday 6 to Sunday 21 September 2025, both taking place at the magnificent Blackfriars Priory

Professor Ramirez said: 'I can’t wait to share some of my favourite events with you. Join me in front of the fire, curl up and enjoy the best of the Gloucester History Festival with me this winter!’

Tickets are on sale from Friday 10 January 2025, costing £6 for individual events or £30 for a Winter Warmer pass.
