Gloucestershire artists have the chance to compete in a unique open-air art competition at Painswick Rococo Garden, hosting its very first en plein air event on Saturday 11 May 2024.
French for 'out of doors', the event organised by Watch This Space will challenge budding artists to capture a vista from the UK's only surviving rococo garden over the course of the day.
Bring your canvas, materials and set up to paint in the serenity of one of Gloucestershire's most beautiful gardens, before having your work professionally judged by artists and curators — with cash prizes up for grabs for the winning pieces.
Artwork of all sizes and mediums are allowed, with participants encouraged to use mixed media, printmaking, illustration and other techniques as well as painting. Only digital artwork and photography do not qualify.
The competition is open to anyone over the age of 16, with categories including overall winner, best contemporary landscape, best drawing/illustration and a youth prize for under 25-year-olds.
There's cash prizes up to £250, plus the opportunity to have your work exhibited in Spencer House Gallery in Tetbury and featured as part of Painswick Rococo Garden's greeting card series, sold in the gift shop — commission made on all sales will be shared with the artist.
