Alongside amazing 3D interactive archaeology there will also be fun for all the family at The Folk of Gloucester and Gloucester Cathedral.
Steeped in over 2,000 years of history, Gloucester has plenty of hidden gems to be explored.
Kicking off on Monday 15 July 2024, some of the events include a series of talks exploring Gloucester’s history from the discovery of Eastgate Chamber to the role of Gloucester in the Saxon chronicles, a 3D archaeology trail and Eastgate chamber tours.
On Festival Day, Saturday 27 July 2024, there'll also be free activities at Gloucester Cathedral including a miniature dig and washing station, photography treasure hunt and sketching station. The Folk of Gloucester is also hosting free activities including brass rubbing.
Gloucester Archaeology Festival is organised by Gloucester Civic Trust in partnership with Gloucester Cathedral and several organisations in Gloucester.
Marc Waters, event coordinator at The Folk of Gloucester and Trustee of Gloucester Civic Trust, said: 'The festival aims to shine a light on what lies beneath our feet.
'This year we are fortunate not only to be working with Gloucester Cathedral to expand our exciting activities but also to bring a series of talks from renowned professionals on subjects as diverse as the discovery of Eastgate Chamber to Gloucester’s role in the Saxon Chronicles.'
Learning officer at Gloucester Cathedral, Amelie Wiseman, added: 'Many of the activities on offer during this year’s Festival of Archaeology will allow people of all ages to be able to engage with the past in a hands-on way, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for the rich history of Gloucester.
'It's so important that we continue to create opportunities like this so that the wonders of archaeology can be enjoyed by all.'
