Cirencester’s Corinium Museum celebrated its triumph alongside a selection of leading tourism businesses from the south west on Thursday 7 April 2022 – winning the Small Visitor Attraction Bronze Award at the 2021/22 South West England Tourism Excellence Awards.
The Corinium Museum plays host to one of the largest collections of Romano-British antiquities in the UK, taking visitors on an insightful and engaging journey through time – from its prehistoric landscape to modern day – plus, providing an extensive events programme including talks, workshops and cinema screenings.
Over 90 awards were presented at the event, which returned to its usual face-to-face format for the first time since February 2020, with over 300 winners, supporters and tourism leaders in attendance.
During the evening, Kathryn Allison, director at IPR Communications, who represented the Museum, commented: ‘I know the sheer hard work the team has put into the Museum over the last five to ten years.
‘Firstly, to open the brand-new Stone Age to Corinium immersive galleries, and secondly to ensure the health and wellbeing of their visitors, volunteers and staff over recent years. It truly is a remarkable place to be.’
Dr. Katharine Walker, director at Corinium Museum said: ‘The team and I are proud to have won this award. It was great to enter, be a finalist and win Bronze. We are delighted to have received and be part of such a prestigious group of businesses representing tourism in the south west.’
The reputable museum was also awarded a Gold Visit England Attraction Accolade for 2021/2022, plus, qualified as a finalist in the Cultural Enterprises Best Children’s Publication Award.
