The installation of an exciting new art trail at Lydney Harbour, entitled ‘From the Forest to the Sea’, is due for completion by the end of April 2022.
Part of the Destination Lydney Harbour Regeneration project, it is inspired by the harbour’s role in the Forest of Dean’s industrial past and the natural beauty of the site.
The art trail, created by artist duo Denman + Gould, will begin at the A48 before continuing to the harbour along the former railway that once ran alongside the canal.
With installation work beginning at the start of April 2022, the first instalment of the trail will be ‘Tower’, a timber structure alluding to the heavy timber constructions of the industrial revolution. With more installations to come, including ‘Lookout’ and ‘Coal Arch’ on the headland at the harbour later in the month.
Cabinet Member for Economy, councillor Bernie O’Neill, said: ‘These striking artworks will help to put the harbour on the map and enhance the area’s reputation as a place to see nature, heritage and art all in one place.
‘Together the sculptures will raise awareness and understanding of Lydney Harbour, and create a destination for a diverse audience to engage with the unique history of the harbour. We can’t wait for people to come down to the harbour and experience it for themselves.’
