Best friends Amelie Weeden and Emily O’Keefe, both aged six, have embarked on an ambitious challenge to cycle 200km – 100km each – in November 2020, to raise money for food and Christmas presents for Cheltenham Foodbank.

Two-weeks into the month-long challenge, which has seen both girls jumping on their bikes after school and on weekends to clock up the kilometres, and the Cheltenham kids have already smashed their original fundraising target of £500, raising more than £1,500 and counting…

Amelie and Emily’s challenge was initiated after one of the girls’ mums saw a Facebook post from Cheltenham Foodbank asking for donations of chickens for families to have for Christmas dinner and stocking filler presents.

Cheltenham Foodbank gave 3,777 three-day emergency food supplies to people in crisis last year and are currently requesting donations of tinned vegetables, deodorant for men, washing powder tablets, as well as small gifts for Christmas gift bags for families.

The girls, and their parents, are planning on using the funds raised to buy toys and festive food for local families before Christmas.
