Gloucester Food Dock project reaches milestone

A landmark moment in the £3.5 million development that is Gloucestershire Food Dock has been reached, with the owners able to reveal when the opening is likely to be too.

The site of Gloucester Food Dock, overlooking the Victoria Basin, where various waterside buildings are currently being transformed into a new foodie destination.

To those not tall enough to see over the seven-foot high hoardings, it might seem like little has changed at the site of what will become Gloucester Food Dock, but plenty is afoot.

Some 42 tonnes of steel has now been craned into place to create the glass-fronted buildings and rooftop eating areas for the eagerly anticipated attraction.

Contractors Mealings did the heavy lifting for the Bath-based business behind the project, Ladybellegate Estates, which plans to bring up to 15 individual food outlets to the waterside site just off the city centre.

Four of those food outlets have already been revealed – Sibling Distillery, Strip Steak Bar, Wholly Gelato and artisan pizza business, Bella Mia – with more announcements imminent.

Delays to the building work meant talk of an early summer launch proved optimistic, but those behind the project are now confident its doors will open in the autumn.

Ken Elliott, who of Ladybellegate Estates, said ‘We expect to be able to start handing over the units for new businesses to create their unique fit-outs in late summer.’
