Ever-entrepreneurial Gloucestershire global fashion brand Superdry has announced a new partnership with Forest of Dean graphene-makers Versarien to ‘create garments unlike any other on the market’.
The Cheltenham fashion house and plc said it would be working with the ingenious engineering firm to use its revolutionary carbon material graphene in a range of clothing.
Superdry hopes to ‘import graphene’s thermal and moisture management properties into its garments’ which it believes will extend their lifespan, lower environmental impact and make them easier to recycle.
The news comes just days after Superdry announced it was opening a new store in Cheltenham and declared that the company was back on track for growth.
Neill Ricketts, chief executive officer of Versarien plc, said: ‘Since we started working with Superdry we have developed a number of sample garments and its decision to announce the collaboration and the future launch of the products we are developing together is, I believe, testament to the benefits they see in utilising Versarien’s graphene technology.’
It is understood the initial partnership will be for three years, giving Superdry access to Versarien’s scientists and laboratories in Manchester and Cambridge.
