St Modwen has been named as the development partner for the £400 million Golden Valley Development near Cheltenham.
It was chosen by Midlands Land Portfolio Limited (MLPL), the property development arm of Severn Trent (represented by CBRE), to transform its part of the 154-acre site.
The lead-developer for the overall project is yet to be chosen.
What it means for Severn Trent is that a planning application its part of the development could be brought forward as early as this year (2021).
Guy Gusterson, managing director of strategic land and regeneration at St Modwen, said: ‘The development team and I are excited to work in partnership with MLPL on this regionally significant development which will deliver much-needed housing as well as jobs.’
Julie Rossiter, head of property development at Severn Trent, said: ‘This regionally and nationally significant development will be bringing much needed new jobs and sustainable housing to the area.’
Evans Jones, the Gloucestershire-based independent planning consultancy, described the overall Golden Valley Development as ‘a world-class project with national significance’.
The site is adjacent to the Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) and the National Cyber Security Centre and is part of Gloucestershire’s Joint Core Strategy development plans.
The scheme includes approximately 3,000 new homes and at its core ‘a mixed-use Cyber Central Cluster’ – described as ‘leading cyber businesses and innovators alongside academic facilities dedicated to cyber and technologies’.
St Modwen describes the development as ‘one of the most significant residential opportunities in the south west’ and elsewhere it has championed as not only a potential economic driver for Gloucestershire for years to come, but of national and international significance.
