In what has been called ‘a significant investment in the company’s future’, Gloucestershire-based global success story Renishaw has announced scores of jobs and placement opportunities.
The Wotton-under-Edge headquartered engineering business said it was looking to fill 70 graduate positions, 51 apprenticeships and over 60 placement opportunities across its Gloucestershire and South Wales sites.
‘This represents a major investment in the future development of its business, including roles in engineering, manufacturing, embedded electronic design and development, software and IT,’ according to Renishaw.
It is a welcome news from a firm otherwise committed to training which ended 2019 having laid off 120 staff after closing its North Staffordshire factory, and which began 2020 with the news it was considering a further 200 job losses.
‘Apprentices and graduates future-proof the workforce, which is why we have invested so heavily in our early careers programmes since 1979,’ said Julia Russell, apprentice lead at Renishaw, which now describes itself as being based at 79 locations in 37 countries with more than 4,400 employees worldwide.
Becca Hiorns, graduate lead at Renishaw, said: ‘Our graduates, apprentices and placement students go on to have careers in a wide range of engineering and commercial functions, including senior and managerial roles.
‘For example, Gareth Hankins, director of the group manufacturing services division, joined the company as an apprentice.’
The apprenticeship applications, including those for degree apprenticeships, will close on Friday 12 February 2021, during national apprentice week, and graduate and placement applications will close on Friday 19 February 2021.
According to the firm, famously started by now Sir David McMurtry and John Deer in 1973, the virtual selection process will include interviews, group work and early careers talks from Renishaw employees.
Applicants will be chosen for their stand-out CVs and covering letters as much as their academic ability, to ensure they are the best fit for the positions.
In the 2019, JobCrowd rankings Renishaw ranked amongst the top three companies for graduates to work for in the UK’s engineering and manufacturing sector. It was ranked second in the year’s larger graduate intake in its industry and ranked as 45th in the top 100 companies for graduates to work for across all UK sectors.
