Gloucester Cathedral is one of Gloucestershire's most iconic buildings.
With outstanding examples of Romanesque and Perpendicular Architecture; a medieval stained-glass window the size of a tennis court; and the tomb of King Edward II, there is so much to marvel at inside.
Film fans can explore the famous cloisters — originally built to house Benedictine monks — which have since been used as the backdrop to blockbuster movies and award-winning period dramas.
History buffs can take a tour of the Library, the Crypt or head to the top of the cathedral on one of its special Tower Tours. At 225 feet high, visitors are rewarded with stunning views across Gloucestershire — and the chance to see Great Peter, the only medieval bell of its size still in use in England.
There’s interactive fun for younger visitors in the Tribune Gallery; tasty treats at The Monk’s Kitchen; and plenty of events throughout the year, from spectacular light and art installations to craft workshops, festivals and concerts.
There are also regular mindfulness and wellbeing events, as well as a packed programme of family activities during the school holidays.
Visitors are also encouraged to take part in its inclusive daily services, where everyone is welcome regardless of their faith, whether they are local or simply visiting for the day.
Entry to Gloucester Cathedral is by voluntary donation, with a suggested contribution of £5 per adult and £10 per family.
