Power Plate at Fitness First

SoGlos.com wonders if the Power Plate, Fitness First’s new miracle machine for Cheltenham’s body-conscious, is too good to be true.

The Power Plate - miracle cure for the body beautiful or another fitness fad?
The Power Plate - miracle cure for the body beautiful or another fitness fad?

It seems like every other week there’s a new workout, diet or device which is touted as the new answer to all of our slimming dilemmas, meaning we can miraculously shed stones in only half an hour whilst chomping on a Big Mac at the same time.

So you can be forgiven for being sceptical about the new Power Plate machine which Fitness First in Cheltenham have installed – claimed to work through using ‘the principles of acceleration training to stimulate the body’s natural response to vibration’.

Essentially it’s a big vibrating plate which you stand on, holding onto to the handles so you don’t fall off. The idea is that the vibrations create instability in the body, which is forced to perform reflective muscle actions 25 to 50 times per second, resulting in increased muscle strength, bone density and flexibility. The ‘whole body vibration’ is also claimed to help with reducing pain, increasing mobility and improving postural control. And the best bit? The Power Plate machine will do pretty much all of the work for you, so you can just stand there and, well, vibrate.

While the Power Plate has already been proving extremely popular with the fairer sex thanks to its reputation for tightening muscles and reducing cellulite – as well as the likes of Sadie Frost, Claudia Schiffer and Kylie all reportedly using the machine – members of the Gloucester Rugby Team have also been spotted on the Power Plate and it’s expected to become more and more popular with men.

Sessions on the Power Plate at Fitness First in Cheltenham cost £10 for members or £15 for non-members and last 45 minutes, but you’ll need to book in advance. With each session you’ll be able to take advantage of the personal trainer, who will help you with getting to grips with the basics of the Power Plate through to providing advice on specific positions, so that you can maximise the results of your sessions.

Due to the popularity of the Power Plate at Cheltenham’s Fitness First, a second machine has already been ordered and is due to arrive soon. So, if you want to find out whether this is another fad or your new best friend, get in there quick to put it to the test for yourself.

For more information about the Power Plate and to book a session, call Fitness First on (01242) 545740, visit fitnessfirst.co.uk or find more details here.
