Not one, not two, but THREE Gloucestershire spots have made it into the top ten of a new list of the best places to live in England, published by The Sunday Times.
Ranked in a list of nearly 300 locations in England and according to data analysed during 2024, Cheltenham came in at a very impressive number two, only pipped to the top spot by Richmond in Greater London.
While Stroud took third place, with the Cotswolds district securing seventh place.
Using data to do the judging for them, the team at The Sunday Times analysed nine different categories across every local authority in England, including house prices, crime rates, Ofsted reports and NHS waiting times, along with the number of listed buildings in each area, Green Flag-award winning parks and community-listed companies.
Cheltenham was noted as having some of the lowest NHS waiting times in England, alongside some of the best schools in the south west, while Stroud was recognised for its low crime rates.
The average house price was also used as a key measure in the ranking of this list, with the Cotswolds district revealed as the most expensive in Gloucestershire at £491,000, compared to Cheltenham at £342,000 and Stroud at £339,000.
And for those thinking of a move to first-place winner Richmond, the average pile there will set you back a cool £748,000!
The top ten in order is Richmond; Cheltenham; Stroud; Merton in Greater London; Ribble Valley and Fylde in Lancashire; The Cotswolds; Sutton in Greater London; Chorley in Lancashire; and at number 10, Bath and North East Somerset.
Separate rankings were compiled for Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
