Visitors to Slimbridge Wetland Centre will soon have a whole new habitat to explore, with the launch of its Estuary Shoreline this autumn.

Designed and built by the centre's talented grounds team, the accessible new environment will enable staff to educate, immerse and inspire visitors on the superpowers of wetlands.

The experience highlights the beautiful reserve, featuring a 'moon gate' framed walkway which starts the journey towards the Estuary Tower; an all-weather space where you'll be able to dine at the shore's edge; a sunken mindfulness seating area to have a moment of peace; giant lily pad stepping stones; a shoreline beach; and a tributary where little ones can play.

July saw a real leap forward with the project. After a huge amount of groundworks over the spring and early summer, the build of the landscape-defining, ‘moon gate’ is now well underway, being lovingly weaved by Chris and Ruth of Oakey Bear Sculptures, alongside the diligent team and volunteers.

The mindfulness seating area is also taking shape, with stonework, which gives a nod to the historically important Duck Hut next door, starting in August.

When complete, the garden will invite visitors to immerse themselves in the natural environment, providing moments of tranquillity and allowing a unique connection with nature.

Additionally, it will also serve as a dynamic event space.

While certain areas of the development may open sooner, work in the garden is scheduled to be completed in October 2024.
