A picturesque campsite on a remote Cotswold farm has been named one of the best locations for 'almost' wild camping in the UK by leading outdoor retailer, Blacks.

Wild Camping in the Cotswolds, located on a working farm in the village of Aldsworth, has been named alongside campsites in Snowdonia, Cornwall and the Scottish Highlands in a list of the best in the UK for offering a 'wild camping' experience, but with a little extra security.

The list of eight locations has been curated by camping retailer Blacks in collaboration with Hipcamp, a leading resource for booking unique outdoor stays, in response to searches for ‘wild camping’ increasing by 76 per cent since the start of 2024.

Wild Camping in Aldsworth offers campers a truly back-to-basics, private camping experience, with only one booking of up to 12 people accepted at a time on the working, 110-acre farm.

Guests can choose from any number of scenic spots to set up camp, from those with views of 'stupendous' rolling hills, to spots that are bathed in sun all day or sheltered from the wind, with guidance from the campsite's welcoming host, Celia. Campfires are permitted on the farm, too.

There's no clubhouse, hardstanding or electric hook-up available — nor are there toilets or showers, with those camping in tents needing to bring their own portable camping toilet and water.

But what is on offer is plenty of peace and quiet and stunning Cotswold scenery, in a location surrounded by walking and cycling trails, gastropubs and shopping and sightseeing opportunities in its nearby villages.
