Gloucestershire's oldest castle — and most popular visitor attractions — is still closed for the season, but that hasn't stopped foodies from flocking to Berkeley Castle for a taste of what its restaurant, The Kitchen Garden, has to offer this winter.
Since opening in spring 2024, The Kitchen Garden at Berkeley Castle has impressed diners with its sustainable ethos and farm-to-table approach, serving fresh dishes bursting with locally sourced, seasonal produce.
Serving 'meals with a side of history', customers can expect a relaxed dining experience in a pretty setting, tucked away in the walled garden of Berkeley Castle.
Its menu changes daily, based on what's garden-fresh and available, with a range of breakfast and brunch options as well as light lunches, from homemade soups to burgers made with local beef.
This year, The Kitchen Garden has extended its menu to include Sunday lunches, too, available from 12pm to 4pm until Sunday 23 March 2025.
Packed with flavour, choices include roasted topside of beef, slow roasted leg of lamb, fish pie or a veggie wellington, made with beetroot, squash and chickpeas — also suitable for vegans.
Not forgetting the trimmings — think fluffy roast potatoes, creamy cauliflower cheese and big Yorkshire puddings, covered with gravy — and the chance to make it a three-course occasion, with a range of starters and homemade desserts to pick from.
Then from February onwards, its monthly Friday Feasting nights bring the community together for one big feast, with plates lining one long dining table and a new theme to look forward to every month.
February's event is, of course, Valentine's themed, taking place on the day of love itself, Friday 14 February 2025, and costing £50 per person for four courses.
The restaurant also plays host to monthly farmers' markets, held on the third Sunday of each month, with opportunities to shop for local produce and pick up some tasty treats.
The Kitchen Garden at Berkeley Castle is open from Friday to Monday until Sunday 30 March 2025, before the castle reopens for spring.
