Hereford's cult burger brand The Beefy Boys has been crowned the winner at the National Burger Awards 2023.
Its signature burger, The Old Boy, which features a smashed dry-aged grass-fed Herefordshire beef patty seasoned with The Beefy Boys’ secret spice blend, cooked with thinly sliced onions and melted cheese, then sandwiched between a potato bun, was named burger of the year.
Claiming two of the five possible accolades up for grabs, The Beefy Boys co-founder, Anthony 'Murf' Murphy, also took the crown of national burger chef of the year.
Murphy said: 'We’re in shock. We thought we wouldn’t win anything, but we’ve ended up winning two awards!
'We were in the first round and we could see burgers being plated up and how good they were, but we went really simple with ours and obviously it worked for us.
'This win is going to be great for business. We’ve just opened in Cheltenham, so it’s going to kick off now. I’m sure it will be amazing. We’ll celebrate at our launch party, no doubt.'
The Beefy Boys took over the former Bill's on Regent Street earlier this month, with the 'meat boutique' officially launching this Saturday 25 February 2023, so Gloucestershire burgers fans won't have to wait long to get their teeth into the best burger in the UK!
