The Oklahoma Onion Boy from The Beefy Boys was named the fourth best burger in the world at the World Food Championships this November 2024.

Cult burger brand, The Beefy Boys, is officially home to the world's fourth best burger, after reaching the finals of the World Food Championships for the second time.

Exactly 10 years after their first appearance at the event catapulted them to fame, they represented the UK for World's Best Burger for the second time this November 2024.

Tasked with creating an extreme burger for the first round, their creation The Boujee Boy won the Judge's Choice award and secured them a place in the final with just seven other contestants.

It's illegal to import Hereford beef into the USA, so the boys worked hard with local butchers to source an equivalent that matched the quality of the meat used in their UK restaurants — with The Boujee Boy containing two dry-aged grass-fed patties, American cheese, truffle-infused dirty mayo, bone marrow, miso onions and Champagne-pickled gherkins.

They even managed to source a cast iron flat plate to cook the burgers on, to ensure their signature smashed patties came out exactly right.

For the final, contestants were asked to present their signature burger — and while it didn't clinch them the win they were hoping for, the Oklahoma Onion Boy came in fourth place, making it one of the very best burgers in the world.

After their unexpected success the first time around, coming in second place in Las Vegas back in 2014, childhood best friends Anthony 'Murf' Murphy, Daniel Mayo-Evans, Christian Williams and Lee Symonds used the prize money to open their first restaurant in Hereford, which achieved cult-like status with local foodies.

Since then, as well as wheeling out their food trucks at events and festivals all over the country, they've also opened two more restaurants — one in Shrewsbury and one in Cheltenham; appeared on national TV in The Hidden World of Hospitality with Tom Kerridge and Saturday Kitchen; and published their first cookbook.

Murf said: 'The World Food Championships is such a huge part of The Beefy Boys’ story, and coming second at the 2014 competition gave us the push to open our first restaurant. Heading back in 2024, 10 years later, feels like a homecoming.

'It’s an honour to be here, and to be able to say we have one of the top five burgers in the world is amazing! Thank you to all of you for your love and support — we could not do the Beefy Boys without each and every one of you! Fourth best burger in the world baby!'

Fancy tasting the world's fourth best burger for yourself? The Beefy Boys in Cheltenham is open 12pm to 9.30pm Monday to Saturday and 12pm to 8pm Sunday.
