The Virtual Reality Orchestra was a huge hit in 2017, when more than 2,000 people donned a virtual reality headset, climbed inside a shipping container and allowed themselves to be transported on stage with the Philharmonia Orchestra.
The experience is returning for this year’s Cheltenham Music Festival, with its home on the high street for two weeks between Saturday 30 June and Sunday 15 July 2018.
This year, the theme is ‘space’, inspired by the 40th anniversary of the Voyager one and two spacecraft. As well as being part of the orchestra’s performance, participants can enjoy scenes from interstellar space, taken by Google’s Virtual Reality team in partnership with NASA.
The free Virtual Orchestra is open from 3pm until 6pm on Tuesdays to Fridays and 11am to 5pm on weekends. The experience lasts for eight minutes and is recommended for anyone over the age of seven.
