Celebrating its 75th birthday, Cheltenham Music Festival is calling upon local composers to create a fanfare for three trumpets to mark the special occasion, with a £250 prize available for the winning composer.
Open to anyone who can compose and notate a score for three trumpets lasting between one and two minutes, the fanfare will be performed at the start of the festival in its 75th year, which opens on Friday 5 July 2019.
The winner will be selected by trumpet virtuoso and festival artistic director, Alison Balsom. Speaking about the competition, she said: ‘We want to launch our opening Weekend in style and what better way to get everyone’s attention than Cheltenham’s very own fanfare.
‘I am looking forward to hearing all the entries and choosing a fanfare that will capture the excitement of our 75th anniversary. I hope lots of people of all ages will be inspired to enter.’
The competition closes on Monday 1 July 2019, with the winner’s composition performed by a team of professional musicians on the Imperial Garden Free Stage on Friday 5 July 2019.
