The Soldiers of Gloucestershire Museum is seeking up 70 volunteers to help with its huge plans.
Under new management, the museum in Gloucester Docks hopes to host family-friendly interactive events, such as war re-enactments, as well as opening up the previously private top floor, creating a new ‘War Room’ and extending opening hours – with new features due to showcase impressive replica models and the backgrounds of contemporary conflicts.
In order to bring these ideas to life, the museum’s new manager, Matthew Holden, is calling for an ‘army of volunteers’ to get involved with the upcoming plans.
‘You don’t necessarily have to be into history or the subject matter, it’s just a great chance to meet new people, gain skills and experience and support the local community,’ said Holden.
Having previously worked in 15 museums, including London’s Imperial War Museum, Holden is excited for the future plans for the Soldiers of Gloucestershire, saying: ‘it’s a great honour to be custodian of this museum and I want more people to come and enjoy it. It’s an exciting time to be part of new developments here’.
