In the year that Wotton-under-Edge-based engineering and technology giant, Renishaw, celebrates its 50th year in business, its co-founder and executive chairman, Sir David McMurtry, has been recognised at an international awards ceremony for his outstanding contributions to the manufacturing industry.
The I-Form Advanced Manufacturing Excellence Award 2023 was presented to McMurtry by the CIRP — an international academy for production engineering which has 600 worldwide members that collaborate on issues related to modern production science and technology — recognising his impact across decades of innovation and research in advanced manufacturing.
The annual event was hosted by the University College Dublin and boasted an impressive audience of international academics and professionals from the production engineering industry.
Will Lee, chief executive at Renishaw, said: 'We pride ourselves on contributing to the global advanced manufacturing research and innovation industry. This is a great honour for Sir David and Renishaw, and our aim is to be able to continue making a positive impact on production engineering around the world, helping our customers to make advancements in their ability to manufacture their products accurately and efficiently.'
Renishaw was founded in 1973 by McMurtry and John Deer, with its first product — an innovative touch-trigger probe for Concorde engines — invented by McMurtry in 1972.
McMurtry is also the founder of McMurtry Automotive — a supercar company renowned for its Spéirling hypercars — which could soon be starting work on a new state-of-the-art showroom and factory in Wotton-under-Edge.
