A traditional 'sporting' match dating back almost 100 years, the River Windrush at Bourton-on-the-Water will once again play host to an exciting 30-minute football game on August bank holiday Monday in 2025.
With crowds expected to flood the riverbanks, the game’s participants — two teams made up of Bourton Rovers Football Club players — will battle it out in the cold ankle-deep water in an effort to score as many goals as possible, all while trying to stay upright!
Described by the club as being 'as much about entertainment as it is about football', spectators can expect the teams to end up 'soaked from head to toe', with plenty of laughs and unexpected turns.
What’s more, prior to the game, there will also be a number of stalls for spectators to enjoy, while helping to raise money for the development of the football club.
The event has also been known to attract some celebrity visitors over the years, including Welsh comedian, actor and television host Griff Rhys Jones.
Further details are yet to be confirmed.
