Taking place in the Place To Eat café at Cheltenham’s John Lewis from Wednesday 4 to Tuesday 31 May 2022, history enthusiasts are being treated to a series of five talks from local historians, museum curators and authors as part of its ‘A Talk Through Cheltenham’ series.
On Wednesday 4 May 2022, historian David Elder will reveal little-known Cheltenham facts and stories in ‘Cheltenham: a secret A-Z’, drawing on content from his two books Secret Cheltenham and A-Z of Cheltenham.
Historian and author, Neela Man, discusses the history of Cheltenham’s Lower High Street in her talk ‘Booze, Balloons and Burials’ on Tuesday 10 May 2022.
Local tour guide, Phil Collins, will be donning his finest and dressing as famous Cheltonian, Captain Henry Skillicorne, for his talk ‘Cheltenham through Picture Postcards’ on Tuesday 17 May 2022.
Holst Victorian House curator, Laura Kinnear, discusses the history of Holst’s famous birthplace on Tuesday 24 May 2022.
While local author, Lesley Sainty, delivers a reading of her historical novel Taking The Waters, set in Regency Cheltenham, as well as telling some of the untold stories of Cheltenham’s past on Tuesday 31 May 2022.
