Theatre lovers are in for a lengthy treat this May when a thrilling and critically-acclaimed production of Tolstoy’s masterpiece War and Peace takes centre stage at the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham from Thursday 15 May 2008.

Adapted for the stage by multi award-winning writer Helen Edmundson, Tolstoy’s saga was originally staged at the National Theatre in 1996, and has been brought back to life for the new UK tour by Shared Experience.

Directed by Nancy Meckler and Polly Teale, the revived production has earned rave reviews in the national press, and now it is time for Gloucestershire audiences to make way for the marathon performance.

Painted on a vast canvas of locations, with innumerable characters and experiences, the stirring play is an intricate tale of families, love and friendship set against a backdrop of war.

Weighing in at five hours in length, the production is split into Parts 1 and 2, which can either be seen at separate performances or as a double-bill on one day with a dinner-break between parts.

Organisers promise that with an infusion of stunning visual imagery and powerful physical style, the performance is one not to miss.
