Would be nice if you could have a trip on a small boat instead of having to paddle. Will give 10 stars if they introduce that!

Frank Carson comedy night in Cheltenham

22 May – Cheltenham Town Hall visitors are in for a night of good old fashioned comedy this May, when Frank Carson and others take to the stage.

An oldie but a goodie - Frank Carson takes to the stage in Cheltenham this May.

While spending an evening with Frank Carson might not be everyone’s cup of tea, this comedy circuit legend is sure to pull in seasoned fans from across Gloucestershire when he takes to Cheltenham Town Hall stage on Thursday 22 May 2008.

Needing no introduction and now in his 80s, the Northern Irish comedian is an institution of British comedy, having been a regular on children’s show Tiswas, performed alongside Bernard Manning, Mike Reid and Jim Bowen, and in front of the Royal Family during his long career. Audiences can expect plenty of Irish wit – tried and tested on a Blackpool crowd for many years – including catchphrases ‘It’s the way I tell ‘em’ and ‘It’s a cracker’, no doubt.

And there’s more… joining Frank on Cheltenham Town Hall’s ‘A Comedy Night Out’ will be wellie boot-wearing Irish comedian Jimmy Cricket, who has been confirmed to take over from Duncan Norvelle.

Completing the night’s trio of live performers will be Ian Lees, having started his showbusiness life with two top comedy showgroups of the 1970s, The Montanas and Light Fantastic, before making the break as a solo artist. Sludge, as he is affectionately known, was also a regular member of the Tizwas cast, having also regularly appeared on the likes of The Comedians, Summertime Special and Live From Her Majesty’s.

For fans of a form of comedy which has had Britain in stitches for many, many decades, don’t miss what is set to be a very special two-hour show.
