Cider With Rosie, the much-loved classic from Gloucestershire writer Laurie Lee, will be taking to the stage in the county this summer, when the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School bring their nationwide tour to the aptly-named Roses Theatre in Tewkesbury.

Adapted for the stage by Nick Drake, organisers promise this new adaptation will be just as poignant and heart-warming as the novel, providing an evocative account of an idyllic childhood spent in the village of Slad in the heart of Gloucestershire.

Sometimes funny, sometimes sad, the story draws upon the innocence of remote, rural Cotswold life at the beginning of the last century – set in a village without electricity and before cars made their way along country lanes.

This feast for the senses introduces us to a timeless place on the verge of change, to the colourful characters of village life and to the tantalising temptation of sipping cider with Rosie Burdock – a perfect outing for theatre lovers from across the county.
