Miss Gloucester 2008 at Liquid

30 May – Miss Gloucester 2008 will be chosen from beautiful applicants from across the city in a final being held at Liquid nightclub on Friday. And you can see the action live.

The current Miss Gloucester, 21-year-old Dani Turner from Longlevens, is organising the contest to find her 2008 successor, and has set out on a mission to find Gloucester girls aged 17 to 24 to takeover her reign.

Contests in recent years have taken place online as part of the national Miss England competition, but this year the final will take place locally – at Liquid Diva Nightclub on Friday 30 May 2008.

Over 70 girls entered the competition, with a shortlist of 15 being put to the public vote to determine the five finalists. Nearly 5000 votes were cast by text and phone with the finalists being names as: Laura Gardiner (19), Katie Beard (18), Laura Denman (18), Bailey Hill (24) and Jamie Preece (22).

One of the five girls will be selected as the Miss Gloucester 2008 by a panel of judges including the Mayor of Gloucester, Cllr Norman Ravenhill, with the winner of the public vote being awarded additional points in the process.

Members of the public can show their support for all five finalists at the event which costs £2 entrance and includes a champagne reception, as well night-long clubbing at Liquid Diva.

Dani Turner said: ‘The interest in the contest has been great – from the girls taking part and from the public. Competition has been intense, but everyone has really enjoyed it. I’m sure it’s going to be a great night, but for the winner this is only the start.’

The winner, as well as going forward to the Miss England semi-finals which are being held at Champneys Springs health resort in Leicestershire, will get the opportunity of taking part in the annual Carnival Procession and Christmas lights switch-on in Gloucester as well as a variety of prizes.
