Night watch – Cheese

Sunday nights are alright for partying, with ‘Gloucester’s cheesiest night out’ at the aptly-named Cheese.

Gloucester nightclub Liquid claims that Cheese is a night complete with ‘lame games, crap giveaways and s**t prizes’, so you’d be forgiven for wondering why so many people drag themselves away from the box on a Sunday evening, for four-hours of partying at the city centre club.

While it’s true there are games and giveaways, that’s not all Cheese has to offer. With cheap entry, promotions keeping the budget to £1.50 a drink and opening hours until 2am every Sunday, Liquid’s newest night is getting increasingly busy, despite their dubious marketing tactics.

Cheese has already established itself as a prime party night at Cheltenham’s Moda every Wednesday, and now the Gloucester version has proven quite the puller-in of punters.

A laidback favourite with casual clubbers and students alike, don’t arrive expecting a quiet Sunday night drink or a stylish soiree of cocktail sipping, but more an unpretentious night of cheesy pop and chart-topping tunes, fit for the young crowds who love dancing and drinking in equal measures.

More than a few of Cheese’s regulars get dressed-up to the nines (and we don’t mean cocktail dresses and tuxedos) with fancy dress stretching the wardrobe limits – including everything from builders and decorators to sailors and pirates, with inflatable guitars flung around for the fun of it.

While the dress code is casual, with no trainers, tracksuits or ‘chavs’ allowed, turn-up in a school uniform and you will fit right in. Good old fashioned fun is here to stay in Gloucester, thanks to Sunday Cheese night at Liquid.
