Legendary jazz diva Eartha Kitt will kick off what is set to be an oustanding Cheltenham Jazz Festival 2008.

While 2007 saw what was undoubtedly the biggest and best Cheltenham Jazz Festival to hit Gloucestershire yet, the line-up for the 2008 seven-day event is quite simply breathtaking – with jazz fans old and young from across the UK snapping-up tickets like proverbial hot cakes.

The legendary Eartha Kitt will be dropping in for her only UK festival appearance, Cleo Laine and John Dankworth will be celebrating their 80th birthdays with some classic jazz standards and Jools Holland’s front woman Ruby Turner will be bringing her soulful sounds to Cheltenham once again.

Other highlights include performances by Imelda May, Courtney Pine and the Jerwood Jazz Generation’s selected artists Soweto Kinch, Iaan Ballamy and Pete Wareham. Bill Frisell and Jack DeJohnette’s performances are expected to sell-out quickly, while Van Morrison’s performance featuring tracks from his new album is sure to wow festival audiences.

And that’s not forgetting none other than Mr Scruff who’ll be bringing his upbeat sounds to Cheltenham, with performances by Gwyneth Herbert, Maceo Parker, Dennis Rollings, Roberto Fonseca and many more expecting to make the Cheltenham Jazz Festival 2008 an unforgettable event.
