Metropolitan Opera at Cineworld Cheltenham

19 May – An encore of the Puccini classic La Bohème from New York’s famous Metropolitan Opera will be shown live, in full high definition glory, at Cineworld Cheltenham this May 2008.

Opera lovers across Gloucestershire will get another chance to appreciate the thrill of seeing a Metropolitan Opera performance live without leaving the county this May, when La Bohème returns for an encore at Cineworld Cheltenham.

A selection of Cineworld cinemas across the country, including Cheltenham, will be broadcasting the Met’s latest performance in high-definition, live from New York on Monday 19 May 2008.

According to organisers: ‘A magnificent cast comes together for Franco Zeffirelli’s iconic production of the Puccini favorite. The original, and arguably best, exploration in to the heady bohemian world of Paris in the late 1800s.’

For the uninitiated, La Bohème sees anarchic bohemians, Marcello and Rodolfo, philosophising roommate Colline and musician Schaunard partying in the Latin Quarter of Paris; dealing with hunger, poverty and paying rent and falling in love.

Presided over by young conductor Nicola Luisotti, the Metropolitan Opera’s vocal ensemble is led by the mesmerising Angela Gheorghiu, who sings Mimì for the first time in 12 years, opposite golden-toned tenor Ramón Vargas as her lover, Rodolfo.
