While Dean Heritage Centre is already a popular visitor attraction all through the summer, Saturday 24 to Sunday 26 May 2008 will witness the first ever Fire and Wood Festival – with families everywhere expected to join in on the action.

The three-day festival will be celebrating wood and fire through a host of displays and demonstrations which promise to wow visitors, including chainsaw carvers working with wood and fire to produce spectacular sculptures, blacksmiths demonstrating their ancient craft and bow-makers revealing the art form behind weapon-making.

Visitors can also expect to see a number of other traditional crafts being practiced, including chair-making, woodturning and woodcarving, while dozens of crafts people and stall holders will be offering their hand-crafted wares.

The Fire and Wood Festival will also provide the opportunity for everyone to get involved in traditional charcoal burning, and pole lathe turning in the woordland workshop, while the Dean Heritage Centre’s usual five modern galleries, outside displays and five acres to explore make this an unmissable event for families across Gloucestershire.
