Meet The Tudors at Sudeley Castle

26 May – Don’t miss the rare chance to experience Tudor life this summer, when Sudeley Castle in Winchcombe is transformed for a special Meet The Tudors event.

Watch out for the wrath of Mike Farley - the UK's number one Henry VIII re-enactor at the Sudeley Castle event.
Watch out for the wrath of Mike Farley - the UK's number one Henry VIII re-enactor at the Sudeley Castle event.

On Saturday 24 to Monday 26 May, Sudeley Castle and Gardens will be taking visitors back in time to the Tudor period, providing a rare insight into a very different life experienced during the 1500s.

Expect to see the great Henry VIII strolling the grounds of the Tudor palace as the executioner is looking for his next victim, and be careful not to upset the king or you could be in for the chop – unless the jolly jester can put him in a better mood, that is.

The royal falconer will be in attendance displaying and flying the king’s private collection of owls, hawks and kestrels, as will Queen Elizabeth I and visitors will be able to immerse themselves in one of the most important periods in Sudeley’s history.

Sudeley Castle was once home to Queen Katherine Parr, the last and only surviving wife of the cruel Henry VIII, who is entombed in St. Mary’s Church within the grounds. And the castle’s royal connections don’t stop there, as Anne Boleyn, Lade Jane Grey, Queen Elizabeth I and Henry himself all lived at or visited Sudeley during their lives. Today visitors can stroll the grounds and enjoy the gardens in all their glory, viewing the beautiful countryside surrounding the estate, much of it as it was at the time of the Tudors.

During the special Meet The Tudors event, guests will also be invited to visit Sudeley’s exhibitions including a fascinating collection of artefacts through the castle’s history, including a fine collection of Tudor paintings, miniatures and rare relics thought to have belonged to Queen Katherine Parr.

A Tudor costume display also promises to have meticulously recreated the bejewelled robes of Henry VIII and his wives, originally created for David Starkey’s television series The Six Wives of Henry VIII.
