Transforming the familiar into the surreal, a new exhibition of work by illustration artist and local student Chris Rixon is taking pride of place at the University of Gloucestershire’s Francis Close Hall this May.

The Swimming in Soup exhibition, open to the public until Saturday 10 May 2008, consists of 26 detailed pen and ink drawings, linked together by unexpected and engaging connections. Providing a novel backdrop to the thought-provoking collection will be the campus’s Chapel, where it has been staged.

Reverend Tamsin Merchant, a chaplain at the University, said: ‘This is a great exhibition and the chapel setting is unique. With surreal imagery it’s really quite intriguing and even a little disturbing at times.’

Venue: The Chapel, Francis Close Hall, Swindon Road, Cheltenham
Dates: Monday to Friday, until Saturday 10 May 2008
