Is art inspiring or irritating? You decide at the next Café Society debate in Cheltenham.

Fancy the chance to air your opinions, join in a lively discussion or just the excuse to have a pint or glass of wine with a new group of people? Either way Café Society, held at The Beehive pub in Cheltenham, could be just what you’re looking for. And if you love or loath art then there’s even more reason to join in with the next debate on Monday 14 April 2008.

The University of Gloucestershire, organisers of April’s Café Society debate, say: ‘Whether you find it inspiring, intimidating or just plain irritating, you don’t have to be an expert to have an opinion on art. And the floor is open to anyone to voice theirs at the latest Café Society event – What’s Art For?’.

Organised and hosted by the University’s senior lecturer James Derounian, April’s Café Society debate will start with senior lecturer Alan Ford taking to the floor with a short talk on the subject, followed by an open discussion. Dr Ford said: ‘I’m really looking forward to lighting the blue touch paper and retiring at a safe distance before handing the debate over to the floor.’

The informal event is part of the Café Scientifique network and everyone is welcome to come and explore the topic and have their say. Entry is free and there is even the offer of a free glass of wine too.
