Big Boddington Bonanza

16 September – Pets, live performances, poetry and picnics help to celebrate Gloucestershire’s 1000 year anniversary at the Big Boddington Bonanza, providing a day out the whole family won’t want to miss.

The Boddington Manor's grounds will provide the perfect setting for the family day out.
The Boddington Manor's grounds will provide the perfect setting for the family day out.

For one day only the grounds of Boddington Manor, near Cheltenham, will be transformed to make way for the Big Boddington Bonanza – a chance to celebrate Gloucestershire’s 1000 year anniversary and enjoy a family day out in the great outdoors while the last glimmer of summer sunshine still lasts.

The day’s highlight will be the Millennium Dog Parade featuring man’s best friend through the ages – with hunting dogs representing the period from 1007 to 1307, smaller game dogs representing the period 1307 to 1607, hunting hounds 1607 to 1807 and shooting dogs the period 1807 onwards.

The event will also see music provided by Live Music Now, entertainment by a variety of performers and Gloucestershire 1000s poet laureate, Peter Wyton, will also be giving a recital of his latest work. There will also be plenty of entertainment for kids, including ever-popular face painting.

The Big Boddington Bonanza will also see rows of tables lined-up to make way for picnickers with a spread on offer from local company Relish. There will be stocks and flour bags, a plant sale and Gloucestershire produce food stalls – including Spot Logins Organic Ice Cream, Cheltenham-based Ken Sheather Wines and fairtrade coffee from Gloucester-based Ethical Addictions.

What’s more, visitors will be able to explore Boddington Manor’s grounds – including special guided tours of the mature gardens which have been restored over the last 22 years and boast a wild flower woodland walk, specimen trees, lawns, lakes and even a bog garden.

The Big Boddington Bonanza is being held in aid of the Gloucestershire Community Foundation and St. John Ambulance. Tickets cost £5 – available on the day – and the event is free for children under 12. For more information about Gloucestershire’s 1000th anniversary visit gloucestershire1000.org.uk.
