Battle at Sudeley Castle 2008
27 to 28 September – Step back in time for a weekend of medieval mayhem at Sudeley Castle’s summer 2008 Battle event.
Sudeley Castle will be besieged by a medieval cast of knights, soldiers and even a few jesters, as Battle! 2008 gets under way in the grounds of the historic castle in September.
Whether you choose to cheer on the gallant good guys or show your support to the Black Knight, the jousting ring will provide a fiercely-fought highlight to the two-day event. Clad in bold costumes, the Knights of Middle England will be bringing the pageantry, honour and chivalry of the middle ages to life, in this full-scale competitive tournament. As well as showing-off their skills with a lance, the knights and their trusty steeds will be performing more than a few stunts in what promises to be a show not to be missed.
Visitors to Sudeley Castle during the unique weekend in September 2008 can also hope to catch re-enactment group, The Plantaganets, demonstrating mock foot battles, archery, weapons training and tournaments. While for the more genteel visitors there will be demonstrations of medieval ladies’ dancing, singing minstrels and other historic pursuits to keep them entertained.
The daily timetable, which is subject to change, is as follows:
11.30am: Ladies archery and archery practice
12pm: Jousting
1pm: A talk on The Hundred Years War
1.30pm: Squire training and weapons training
2pm: Ladies dancing – with audience participation
